چکیده
Controlling the timing performance of a network server is a challenging problem. This paper presents a Queueing Model Based Feedback Control approach to keep the timing performance of a network server close to the service level specification. We show that in an instrumented Apache server, combining feedback control with a queueing model leads to better tracking of QoS specifications than with feedback control alone or queueing model based feed forward control

متن کاملThe Aperiodic Multiprocessor Utilization Bound for Liquid Tasks
Real-time scheduling theory has developed powerful tools for translating conditions on aggregate system utilization into per-task schedulability guarantees. The main breakthrough has been Liu and Layland’s utilization bound for schedulability of periodic tasks. In 2001 this bound was generalized by Abdelzaher and Lu to the aperiodic task case. In this paper, we further generalize the aperiodic ...

service level agreement, web performance tuning, software performance modeling, response time, queueing, optimization We present a nonlinear integer optimization model for determining the number of machines at each tier in a multi-tier server network. We utilize a result from an open queueing network model on the average response time; the optimization model is to minimize a weighted sum of tot...
متن کاملQueueing Models and Statistical Analysis for Atm Based Networks
In this paper a discrete-time GI/G/1 (General Independent arrivals/General service times/single server) queueing model is considered. It is useful for design and performance evaluation of asynchronous communication systems, in particular for ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode) systems. The model assumes an infinite waiting time room (buffer). The attention is focused on the equilibrium distributio...
متن کاملPerformance Modeling of a Power Management/Control System
This paper develops a performance model for a class of soft real time systems. The incentive came from a specific commercial system; however the resulting model can have other applications. The model incorporates a set of properties that are not all common in prior models such as a queueing network with a polled serving pattern, programmable priority levels, multiple message classes, network-lo...
